Last year in Lehi, UT they built a brand new Primary Children’s Hospital exclusively for children. The other children’s hospital in Salt Lake so this new hospital provided lots of access to people across Utah county for pediatric care. Families from all the way in Payson can now cut their commute in half. Notably they also included a Ronald McDonald family room in the hospital accessible to families with children in the PICU/NICU.
The Family Room provides overnight guest rooms, meals and snacks, living space, laundry facilities, and many other amenities free of charge to families staying in the hospital. This is an incredible resource to families going through hard times supporting their children during their hospital stay.
Most notably they provide home-cooked meals for lunch and dinner for families staying over in the hospital, so we signed up for a lunch service. We chose to make chili and showed up to use their kitchen to cook the meal and then serve it to the families there. The kids had a blast helping in the kitchen and the staff made it so easy to have us all there. We met several families who had been there a long time, wanted to talk and were so happy to have a home-cooked meal. It was a privilege to be there, we left lots of leftovers and will definitely be back!
