Family Service 2023

This year, we’ve been feeling really blessed that we have everything we could want. We have family around us to help us when we have a hard time, or when we have the opportunity to take a once-in-a-lifetime trip. Our kids have the ability to let their imaginations run wild and dream about what would make them happy, and then we have the ability to get it for them. But not everyone has that in their lives. So we wanted to help make that happen for someone else. To do that, we signed up to support a family with the United Way’s Sub For Santa.

We had the chance to take the kids shopping for a family that looked just like ours. Atreyu, age 8, Link, age 6, and Mya, almost 1. So after sitting the kids down and explaining what we were doing, we set off to give Santa Claus a hand in making this family’s Christmas a great one!

This is something we’ve been wanting to do for a long time and it felt like such a privilege to serve this sweet family that matched ours. On the drive down some of us (mostly Kyle) had some tears, thinking about how close we all are to needing help like this. It feels like the most valuable lesson of service is getting outside yourself and realizing how Christ feels about each of us. He just wants us to have as much happiness as possible. And when we help other people feel some of that love, the most important realization is suddenly understanding how Christ feels about us.
